Optical interrogation of multi-scale neuronal plasticity underlying behavioral learning

چکیده
Behavioral learning is driven by adaptive changes in the activation of behaviorally relevant neuronal ensembles. This learning-specific reorganization circuits correlated with activity-dependent modifications synaptic dynamics. However, a definitive causal link remains to be established. How plasticity distributed among eventually shape behavioral learning? A multi-scale understanding progressive hindered lack techniques for monitoring and manipulating these events. The current rise optogenetics, especially combined brain-wide circuit imaging, opens an entirely new avenue studying causality at multiple scales. In this review, we summarize technical achievements discuss challenges linking across levels elucidate mechanisms learning.

متن کاملGIT1 regulates synaptic structural plasticity underlying learning
The signaling scaffold protein GIT1 is expressed widely throughout the brain, but its function in vivo remains elusive. Mice lacking GIT1 have been proposed as a model for attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, due to alterations in basal locomotor activity as well as paradoxical locomotor suppression by the psychostimulant amphetamine. Since we had previously shown that GIT1-knockout mice h...
متن کاملRapid cortical plasticity underlying novel word learning.
Humans are unique in developing large lexicons as their communication tool. To achieve this, they are able to learn new words rapidly. However, neural bases of this rapid learning, which may be an expression of a more general cognitive mechanism, are not yet understood. To address this, we exposed our subjects to familiar words and novel spoken stimuli in a short passive perceptual learning ses...

1. Adult monkeys were trained in a tactile two-bar recognition task. Bar A delivered sinusoidal vibrations to the distal phalanx of finger II-IV and bar B to the middle, proximal, and partly to the distal phalanx of finger III. Each stimulus train was composed of a sequence of brief vibrations that were delivered alternatively by bar A and B. The monkeys’ task was to recognise two successive si...
